Grade II* Farmhouse
Defect Analysis, Expert Witness, & Repairs
I was first approached by the owner to advise on whether there were beetle infestations and rot. I undertook an inspection at which point I confirmed the client’s fears and pointed out that there were some serious problems with the jetty of the timber frame.
It transpired that the client had not long purchased the property and the matter turned into an expert witness instruction against the original surveyor. The matter was settled in favour of the client.
I was then asked to specify the repairs and oversee the project. Work was sensitively undertaken. Some timber replacement was necessary (using green Oak), but discreet insertion of strengthening steelwork also took place. Re-rendering was undertaken using lime render.
The project won an Award from the local Council for the conservation repairs – please see the downloadable pdf.
