I am delighted to announce that Thaxted Guildhall has agreed to my using the building for training days.

Together with colleagues Marianne Suhr and Duncan Philips, we are planning a two-day conference looking at the future of historic windows.  With the spotlight rightly on improving thermal performance of buildings, there is increased pressure on windows and how best to upgrade them.  The conference will bring together experts and will feature c. 30 presentations and a topic relevant trade show.  Information can be found here: https://listedbuildingsurveys.co.uk/historicwindows2023/

I have now added a subscription sign-up that can be found at the bottom of each page of this website.  I do not intend to flood subscribers with emails, but will send out a newsletter as and when new events are arranged and when there is news to impart.  Please sign-up if you wish to be kept informed of things I am involved with, but also information about building conservation that I think subscribers may be interested to hear about.

I can announce that there is to be an Extra Day to the Summer School next year.  It will be on Friday 23rd June 2023.  Details are being sorted out, but it will be an interesting and diverse mix of speakers.  The day is intended for past delegates (our Alumni group) and anyone else who might be interested.  I will post details when available.

Following the recent publication of the Joint Position Statement – Investigation of moisture and its effects on traditional buildings, I thought it about time to tell my story of how I became known as the surveyor who does not believe in rising damp.

Discussions regarding the Summer School 2023 with Marianne Suhr and Duncan Philips about a revised and improved programme and possibly additional ‘special’ day. 

Discussions commence about a separate conference – further details in due course. 

Duncan and Stephen continue to explore a follow-on to the Summer School.
